Dear Personal Letters…

Words / 2023-25 Phone Texts

Dear Personal Letters - We tell a story about our experience that is not absolutely accurate because of developed biases ... selective memory ... and a tendency to distort happenings to match or fit our own perspective. We cannot trust that our interpretations are completely true. Our interpretations act as a lens guiding each decision. Creating an identity that influences how we navigate life ... negotiate our journey. Our present way of being then influences the story we tell ourselves; meaning if we consistently envision and think of our life journey as overcoming obstacles ... difficulties ... hardships ... we will view all future challenges as opportunities. Chances for developing and improving resilience. On the flip side a perceived life narrative focused on a history of setbacks can lead to a gloomy ... cynical ... and defeatist outlook. This can mess us up by creating confining beliefs and negative self conversation ... which can lead to self-doubt and increased anxiety. Writing ... art making ... performing arts ... and or visiting with a therapist ... have the ability to change our narrative and our life.
