Brrd Roots ~ Script For A Performance
Title: A Mirror to Eternity
---
Act I: Dreams in the Dust
(Adrian stands in the surreal square, gripping the crumpled blueprints as if they could still anchor him. The faint hum of collapsing machinery and a low, discordant symphony of economic debates, factory bells, and fading echoes of laughter fills the air. The basilica looms behind him, its dome fractured, but a faint light shines through.)
Adrian (to himself, free verse):
I built these towers for progress,
To pierce the heavens and outlast time.
Steel wrapped in dreams.
But now the gears stall,
The lights fade,
And I am left with their ghosts.
(Victor paces, speaking in abrupt rhymed couplets, his notebook a tattered remnant of his former pursuit of truth.)
Victor (rhyming):
The wisdom I sought, the answers I chased,
All dissolve like dust—my life misplaced.
The intellect promised salvation divine,
Yet here I stand, lost, in a shattered design.
(Clara enters with slow, deliberate steps. In her hands, she carries a single sapling. Her voice rises in defiant blank verse, sharp and unrelenting as she confronts Adrian.)
Clara (blank verse):
You built these towers while the Earth cried out.
You poured ambition into steel and stone,
But every dream you forged came at a price.
Look around—this square, this city, this world.
All hollow, Adrian. All ash and silence.
(Adrian turns to Clara, his voice strained, trembling as he speaks in prose.)
Adrian:
Don’t speak to me of silence. These towers—they were humanity’s flame! A monument to progress, to dreaming higher, to... to meaning.
Clara:
Meaning? Ambition is not purpose, Adrian. To dream is not to build. You’ve mistaken your hunger for truth.
(Clara kneels, planting the sapling into the cracked earth. She gazes upward through the fractured dome of the basilica.)
Clara (lyrical, softly):
The stars are hidden now behind the smoke,
But their light waits.
Even in ruin, the Earth holds its breath,
And we can still breathe it life.
(The Watcher appears, cloaked in shimmering gold, the lantern in his hand shifting hues between blue and white. The soundscape grows still, except for the whisper of Echoes.)

Act II: The Mirror of the Soul
(The Watcher’s presence exudes calm authority. He alternates between sharp prose and rhythmic poetry, addressing each character in turn. As he speaks, Victor and Adrian are drawn to him like moths to the lantern’s shifting light.)
Watcher (prose):
Adrian, Victor, Clara—each of you stands on the edge of a precipice. You see destruction, yet do not dare to leap into creation. What you hold within is both your curse and your salvation.
Watcher (poetry):
To seek is noble, to act divine,
Yet both unravel without love’s spine.
The towers crack; the knowledge decays,
But grace endures through selfless ways.
(Elena enters, her frail figure illuminated by the small flame she carries. Ivy follows, clutching the crimson ribbon that seems to weigh her down like chains. Their presence shifts the atmosphere, turning it tender yet charged.)
Echoes (in harmonious chant):
Do you see? Do you hear?
The Earth pleads. Humanity whispers.
(Adrian’s voice quivers as he approaches Elena.)
Adrian (halting prose):
You carry nothing, yet you shine.
How do you... how can you hold peace when the world crumbles?
Elena (gentle rhymed quatrain):
Peace is not earned, it’s not held in the hand.
It flows like a stream through parched, weary land.
I offer no answers, no justice, no gold—
Only this light, if your heart learns to hold.
(Ivy collapses, clutching the crimson ribbon. She cries out as if releasing years of anguish.)
Ivy:
I gave my soul for influence.
I bartered love for power.
But it left me hollow, unable to speak,
Unable to feel. Watcher—is grace even for me?
Watcher (prose):
Grace is not reserved for the worthy, Ivy. It is the language of the broken. Release what chains you.
(Elena kneels beside Ivy, placing her hands gently over the ribbon. It dissolves into light, and Ivy’s shadow lifts. She weeps openly.)

Act III: A New Path
(The transformation begins. Vines grow over the ruins, wildflowers bloom in defiance of decay, and the cold steel of the skyscrapers flickers as though dissolving into light. Amanda steps forward, her luminous presence filling the square with warmth. She offers her flame to Adrian and Victor.)
Adrian (kneeling, free verse):
I sought permanence,
I sought the stars.
But the stars cannot be held;
They only guide.
Amanda... is this grace?
Amanda (calmly, prose):
Grace is not earned. It is not held. It flows. Let it break through you.
(Victor speaks next, his tone one of revelation, his earlier restlessness gone.)
Victor (lyrical poetry):
Wisdom’s not found in knowing it all.
To give, to love—that is the call.
The answers I chased dissolve in this light,
And in surrender, my soul takes flight.
(Clara joins them, her hands guiding Adrian to the sapling. Together, they water it. The Watcher lifts the lantern high, casting its light over the blooming square.)
Watcher (final blessing, rhythmic hymn):
Eternity’s mirror reflects the soul—
Ambition’s hunger, wisdom’s toll.
Yet love’s small flame redeems the past,
And through its fire, all pain is cast.
(The curtain closes as the hymn rises. The final image is the sapling, its leaves reaching toward the stars that now shine unobstructed.)
