Brrd Roots ~ Breathwoven Echoes ~ Unraveling the Hidden Rhythms of Memory

Words / 2025 Variety

It began decades ago, in rooms filled with quiet seekers.
Meditation centers, forgotten roads, spaces where trees whispered wisdom underground,
Where species inhaled mindfulness, exhaled transformation.
The soil corrected itself,
And in its shifting—something opened.

We remember visiting relatives, laughter curling through morning light.
Ackadome, the parrot, perched high,
Repeating fragments of forgotten wisdom:
"Samitone—calm. Breathe. Begin again."

It was funny—these small rituals,
The way routine wove itself into the body like hymnals tucked into muscle memory.
A lyrical formula, a rhythm of breath,
Breathing out betrayals,
Breathing in release.

Equanimity, surrender—
Letting go not as loss,
But as unfolding.
Not searching for status,
But slipping into presence.

There were moments of clarity folded into the daze of the week—
Times when existence felt like reading a manual
On how to play medieval mouth organ music.
Fine sounds, a feeling—
But always just out of reach.

Northern Ukraine, a vintage motorbike built in Bangkok—
Dust spinning behind,
Old roads whispering stories of revolutions that hummed beneath history’s surface.

Somewhere, a child tossed a spear into the air,
Watched it arc,
Watched it fall,
And in its descent,
Time shifted.

Breathing—
Not just survival,
But the role of joy.
The aroma of guts and tears,
The scent of existence boiled down to its essential truth.

Tranquility of mind—a striking aspect of protest,
A quiet revolution threaded between conformity’s cracks.
Letting go,
Breathing in,
Stepping forward.

Crown shiners tilt toward the sky,
Their leaves golden with borrowed light,
Their roots deep with hoarded histories.

We looked up—like bird watchers,
Like seekers of truth lost in shifting rhythms.
"What should we be doing?" we asked.
"What remains?"

And somewhere in the space between silence and motion,
Between the hum of marimba notes and the quiet pulse of morning,
The answer arrived—
Not as words,
But as breath,
Threading through us,
Binding us,
Carrying us forward.
