Brrd Roots ~ The Cradle of Our Common Home ~ Script For A Performance

Title: The Cradle of Our Common Home

---

Act I: Ashes of Ambition

(The stage opens with Dario standing before the skyline of his metallic empire. Smoke rises from chimneys as machinery hums faintly in the background. The Voices swell softly, whispers laced with pain.)

Voices (faintly chanting):
The rivers rise… The soil fades… The world weeps…

Dario (free verse):
This empire of steel and stone—
Built by my hands, raised by my vision.
Progress, they call it. Civilization.
But why do I feel the weight?
Why does the applause crumble into whispers?

(Clara enters, carrying the sapling. Her voice commands attention—her words measured, her presence steady.)

Clara (blank verse):
Your towers cast shadows over dying rivers,
Yet you do not bend to touch their waters.
Is this ambition—these hollow, endless walls?
The Earth does not cry for monuments, Dario.
It calls for healing.

Dario (defensive, fragmented prose):
I’ve created livelihoods—
I’ve given stability and progress.
Why is that not enough?

Clara:
Because ambition that takes and never gives back
Burns brighter, only to turn everything to ash.
Dario, the wounds you’ve left cannot be silenced
By monuments bearing your name.

(She places the sapling on his desk and exits. Victor enters, his appearance disheveled, a journal clutched in his hands. His movements are frantic, his tone filled with sorrow.)

Victor (lyric prose):
I sought truth in equations,
A light that reason could not extinguish.
But every answer I built collapsed,
Each revelation more hollow than the last.

Dario:
Victor, knowledge is progress.
And progress is survival—our salvation.
What more could there be?

Victor (quatrains, rising tension):
Salvation without love is a shell.
Each truth without grace rings hollow.
Your towers rise, but the roots decay—
And the Earth groans beneath the burden.

(The Beggar steps forward, his simplicity juxtaposed with profound presence. He carries a glowing loaf of bread.)

Beggar (lyrical hymn):
What is ambition,
If it does not hold the hand of love?
What is progress,
If it leaves behind the soul?

*(The Beggar places the bread beside the sapling. A faint light emerges from the sapling’s roots as he exits. Dario stares at the bread, conflicted.)

Act II: The Cries of the River

(The stage shifts to the polluted riverbank. Elena crouches, clutching a photograph of her lost home. The air hangs heavy as Ivy paces in the shadows, her trembling hands gripping a crimson ribbon. Victor watches from a distance, silent yet troubled.)

Elena (halting free verse):
This river once danced,
Its waters a mirror for the stars.
Now it swallows everything—
Our fields, our homes, our hope.
Where do we go,
When home is ash?

(Dario approaches cautiously, holding the glowing bread.)

Dario (softly):
Here. Take this.

Elena (bitterly, broken verse):
Bread?
You think bread can mend what’s been stolen?
Can it rebuild forests? Restore rivers?
Do you think this—
This crust—
Can undo the silence left behind?

Dario (pleading):
If not bread, then what?
Tell me—what would be enough?

Elena (her voice sharp, rising):
To be seen. To matter.
Not as rubble in your path,
But as someone worthy of love.

(Ivy steps forward, her ribbon trembling like a fragile thread. Her voice breaks with guilt.)

Ivy (fragmented):
I traded my soul for power.
I turned my back on compassion—
And now I am hollow.
Can grace find even me?

(Victor, now softer, approaches her.)

Victor (lyric prose):
Grace doesn’t measure worth.
It flows freely to the open heart.
Let go, Ivy. Find freedom.

(The Beggar emerges, radiant yet calm.)

Beggar:
Ivy, release the ribbon.
Let it dissolve into light.

(Ivy collapses as the ribbon transforms into golden threads. Aurora steps forward, her presence glowing like the dawn. She places her hands over Ivy, whose shadow lifts as she weeps. The Voices swell into a mournful hymn.)

Voices (rising into harmony):
To love… To heal… To redeem…

Act III: Light Beyond the Ruins

(The riverbank transforms. Flowers rise through cracks, light streams through the clouds, and the air shifts. Clara and The Beggar step forward, carrying the sapling. Aurora joins them, her radiance illuminating the scene.)

Clara (to Dario, blank verse):
Ambition that burns without humility fades.
Plant this—not for legacy or power—
But for life, for hope, for renewal.

(Dario kneels beside Elena. Together, they plant the sapling into the Earth. Aurora guides their hands, her light nurturing its growth.)

Victor (calmly, with realization):
Perhaps wisdom isn’t in knowledge.
It’s in surrender—to love,
To connection, to healing.

(The Beggar raises his arms, his voice resonating like a hymn.)

Beggar (final blessing):
Greatness is not built in stone,
But blooms where love takes root.
Build not towers,
But bridges.
Let this light carry you beyond the ruins.

(The sapling grows, its leaves shimmering as they stretch skyward. The bread ascends, glowing brightly as it dissolves into starlight. The stage becomes a garden of light and harmony as the Voices rise. The curtain falls.)
