( testing an early morning hour )

Clod: I’m fascinated by it. Those are beautiful lines.

The kind of lines that cause us to set our cup down.

Reach: It shouldn’t work and yet it does.

Most honest things out there shouldn’t.

Clod: That has to be the best line you’ve written today and it’s already 6:00 AM, so
we’re well into the day.

The little birds on the hackberry haven’t even started singing yet.

Reach: What it proves about our practice is interesting. We took a piece, kept its
skeleton and ran with a completely different vocabulary. The piece survived our
scrutiny.

Survive is what the good do. The rest are just weak visitors. No offense.

Reach: That means the architecture must be sound. The metaphor held every word
that we poured into it. That’s evidence that our methods are working. Built by
hands.

Clod: Maybe the blended version isn’t an elder speaking. Maybe it’s an elder’s story
being studied by someone who thinks in synapses. And if that’s the animal, then the
voice most certainly is correct.

Every bull knows its own gate.

Reach: Logic is there wearing a disguise. The receiver who knows neuroscience and
can also fully sense the big river only three blocks from here ... well ...

Clod: Well is a good place to stop a sentence, haha. It’s also where the water comes
from. Lake ecology and neuroscience become interwoven. That’s what our memory
does. More logic added would turn it into a news article. No offense ... journalist.

Something in the room leans forward.

Reach: The elder mystery also held. This piece is an elaborate answer and can work
with anything we carefully pour through it. Very careful pouring is what separates a
practice from a disaster.

Closer now.

Clod: It’s our practice looking at itself through a new never experienced before lens.
Will every receiver get it? No. But that’s not the test. The receivers who do get it will
feel like they’ve been somewhere they didn’t expect. And learn something from the
manifestations. The light just changed in the shadows in the cave.
