What the Mind Cannot Name (Revised)
"A visitor's witnessing"
_
Watched someone spend forty minutes reading shampoo ingredients today instead of choosing. Decision paralysis in aisle seven. When everything's labeled, categorized, optimized - why does nothing make sense?
I'm beginning to understand rituals here. They weren't for control. Like breathing doesn't catch air but dances with it. Ceremonies for accepting creation's gifts while staying in flow. Not damming streams but cupping hands to drink.
Something shifted. Gradually, like forgetting your mother tongue one word at a time. Humans lost essential connection. Became isolated existence. Individual subscription models for everything, even meditation. Life became pursuit of personal optimization. Life hacks for souls, productivity for presence.
Different cultures drew edges around reality. Some soft like watercolors, others sharp like screenshots. Deciding where known ends and mystery begins. Like how you know everything about nutrition but nothing about nourishment. Some kept edges permeable. Others built firewalls.
Occidental thinking conceptualized existence. Collected labels like Pokémon cards. Everything named, nothing known. Even mystery got SEO optimization. This naming created forgetting. When you think you know something, you stop feeling it. Why you can identify anxiety disorders but not calm.
Purpose within ecology got lost in naming. Can't see forest for taxonomies. Memory flows through everything but intellectualized minds can't feel current. Too much mental noise, like having seventeen tabs open. Busy thinking about water while dying of thirst.
Civilization built from thinking. Thoughts stacked like Jenga towers, equally unstable. Mind pursuing existence rather than experiencing mystery. This forgetting causes real harm. The kind that destroys soil while discussing sustainability.
Ancient mysteries can't be thought into being. They arrive when you stop trying, like sleep, like love. Cannot conceptualize the natural, must be experienced. Stones know your weight without scales. Rain doesn't check forecast.
I watch people grieve this particular loss. They have everything named, nothing known. Information without wisdom. Ten thousand photos, no memories. Surrounded by life but separate. Connected to everything, touching nothing. Trying to think their way back to feeling. Downloading mindfulness apps, scheduling presence.
Maybe rituals feel familiar because bodies remember what minds forgot. How to receive rather than take. How to be river not observer. How to be within not apart. Not watching sunset but being in sunset.
Some griefs can only be felt through. Shy of words, like animals at forest edges. Not solved, not processed, not integrated. Just felt, like weather. Like mysteries continuing whether you believe or not.
Still learning the difference between knowing and feeling. Still discovering everyone's tired of thinking so hard. Still witnessing mystery returning disguised as mental health crisis.
