A Tongue Yelling To Another Throat: Fuck!
01.10.2026 ... Minneapolis
---
A woman was killed for looking.
Two days later the neighborhood refused to let anyone sleep.
---
Renee Nicole Good drove through streets saying: they are here.
That was all.
An imperfect Honda Pilot.
A nice voice.
A warning passed from window to window.
Oldest music there is.
One tongue telling another throat: I'm not mad at you.
Insanity. He shot at her face three times ... for nothing other than hate or anger.
---
Friday night.
A thousand bodies carried noise toward the places where federal agents rest.
What the protestors brought: anything that makes sound.
Anything from a kitchen and separate garage.
Anything you bang together when words aren't enough.
Drums.
Different kinds of metal on metal.
High pitch whistles that pierce.
The sound becoming a rolling wall of its own.
---
The hotels have names.
Canopy.
Renaissance.
Residence Inn.
Clean sheets.
Continental breakfast.
Shelter for the person who shot someone two days before.
Glass between lobby and street.
Thinner than it appears to naked eyes.
---
Sculptures pushed over.
Comfort disrupted.
Decibels approaching the point where ears start to hurt.
Good.
Let something else hurt for once.
---
In the cold: hand warmers passed between strangers.
Earplugs shared.
A thousand visible breaths.
Small dark silver ghosts saying: still here.
Tenderness not separate from noise.
Noise not separate from tenderness.
---
Four hours.
Then the federal state arrived with its own vocabulary.
Dispersal.
Arrest.
Thirty people taken for staying too long.
Noise ordinance.
Trespassing.
Vandalism.
The language of property.
Then: quiet.
---
No one has been arrested for killing Renee Nicole Good.
He might be in one of those hotels.
He may have heard the noisemakers.
---
A thousand people in freezing darkness.
Pots and pans oddly melting the whole congregation.
The oldest hymn.
One tongue telling another throat:
we are still here.
