Airport Wrong Windpipe Question or Incident
( swallowed crosswise )
JayMee: I just arrived at La Guardia, NY from Gironde, France. I heard someone say ~ Did you get something down the wrong windpipe. What does that mean?
Ustango: It means: did your food accidentally go to your breathing tube ... instead of your swallowing tube ... the throat splits two ways ... air down the windpipe ... food and drink down the esophagus ... When a crumb strays to the air path ... we cough ... sometimes hard ... It's a mishap ... not real choking ... although it can be dangerous-fatal ... but rarely ... You'll also hear it as the wrong pipe ... The phrase is a bit off anatomically ... there's actually only one windpipe ... so nothing can go down a wrong windpipe ... The French language equivalent of ... the wrong pipe ... is ... avaler de travers ...
JayMee: Thanks have a good day
Janitor: Throat ... eat ... polish off ... fear ... sniffing ... tears ... insult ... sink ...
