Brrd Root's Imperfect Lit Demo (brighter than ever)
A rusty ice auger, left abandoned in the frost.
Before a wrecking ball swings, before a large bin gets hauled off,
we're there — inspecting refused materials.
The delicate silhouette of a Mongolia tree reaches not for sunlight but for memory.
Private stories cached away in weathered trunks
then buried in red soil pits and blonde stone caves.
Steel pipes rise defiantly from soft summer sand,
looking ridiculous and triumphant all at once.
Big hand tools do an excellent job
of disentangling compassionate factors.
A forgotten whip handle rests beside damp fake fur —
a juxtaposition so absurd you can't help but grin.
These toys, once whole, now bear scars,
much like the real-life war experiences.
Silk ribbons flutter as though tracing footsteps along ancient trade routes.
The imprint of those invisible laborers —
the people who sift through the remnants of land and ocean waste
in search of meaning and survival.
In the shadows beneath roped gaucho silhouettes,
black fish shapes dart between the mythical and the tangible.
Earth soil shades from Mali
used for painting hot figurative tears
are bets made in a hooded urban abyss.
A dread wig clumped with adhesives worn thin by time
holds on stubbornly, imperfect and sacred.
Don't overlook me; don't abandon me again.
The crocheted duck resting among stained origami sheets,
folded with both playful laughter and quiet tears.
The scarf that smells faintly like a memory of someone you miss.
