Build an insane or absurd brand ... optimize it ... refresh it ... Coherence apparently is the goal ... consistency the metric ... Anything that doesn't fit is useless excess waste ...
Oyparaploo Patchwork + Wearables ... gathers these discarded items and re-stitches ... No raw scraps are too small ... We the makers shift across labels ... registers ... mediums ... media ... producing something that can't easily be "brand-managed" ... because it isn't a record of a sweet ... deceased person ... who was alive across a valuable span of time ... all of them ...
Maker Shift spoken also as Makeshift is the reclamation ... In this present gig economy ... makeshift ... means we couldn't afford the real thing ... so we jury rigged it ... Oyparaploo practice flips that ... Makeshift IS the means ... made of what is around is the work ... not just a rough draft ...
Ground Reality Stakes:
Synthetic content ... Artificial intel content ... is the opposite of patchwork ... Smooth continuous ... derived from training data into outputs ... Patchwork has visible seams ... that's how we know actual hands were there ... In an era when almost anything can be faked ... dated patchwork physical evidence objects ... witnessed exchanges hand strung assembled records ... has a different Epistemic Status ... It can't be faked because pretending to forge it would require the actual labor of the gathering ...
Civic Proof ... In the current moment ... evidence ... is contested terrain ... What counts as a fact ... what gets fact-checked ... what's classified as disinformation ... happen in real time ... Communities have always held patchwork evidence when an official record was wrong ... witness statements ... family papers ... oral fragments ... Our practice extends that type of tradition ... Social Patchwork is good grounds documenting ... Holding many pieces of The Record ... Oyparaploo archive is its own version of events ... most always unlike our government's versions of important things that happen ...
Indigenous Tradition ... Quilts ... Beadwork ... Song fragments of mosaics ... ceremonial stuff ... histories passed in pieces are patchwork evidence based ... Colonial documentation tried to replace these with linear history ... Our research into ... Aboriginal ... Inuit ... Dakota ... Ojibwe ... cultures connect to transmissions of customs and beliefs where patchwork IS the evidence shape and form ... Not a quaint alternative to it ... Mirroring pieces in different ... designs ... colors ... textures ... brought together as representatives of solidarity ...
Our maker-shift dimension is its own thing ... Youth are instructed to specialize ... have one way to work ... one product ... The maker spanning from elder to child is presently treated in our society as commercially incoherent but ... maker shift ... is how most enduring makers worked ... Periods ... Personae ... Turns ... The creator stays alive with each shift ... A coherent brand is actually a dead person on a horse so to speak ... Shifts are Proof of Life.
