Technology Ethical Questions: The Tools Used and Motivations that Created Them
( ethical reckoning with a tool we're using and the company behind it )
Hosting for Oyparaploo is Cloudflare Pages ... which is a standard, independent web hosting platform. It has nothing to do with any AI service and lives on Cloudflare's servers ...
Oyparaploo.com is built with Hugo, which is an open-source static site generator. It produces plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files. Any developer ... or AI tool ... can read, edit, and deploy Hugo sites. It's one of the most common frameworks in the world ... There's no AI dependency ...
We will not lose any AI context. Three core documents built ... unified reference ... methodology ... and the design protocol ... are ours. We can hand them to any other AI (Gemini, GPT, whatever comes next) if we want to. They are comprehensive standalone documents ...
Debugging, updates, and new features are universal ~ HTML and CSS. Any developer, AI tool, or text editor on earth will be able to continue to work with our web page designs, if for whatever reason there is a need to do that ...
This website consists of static files served by Cloudflare. There are no API calls to an AI platform, no model context protocol connections, no runtime AI dependencies. When someone visits oyparaploo.com ...
This Oyparaploo methodology is portable, documentation thorough, and technical stack completely standard. Nothing about the infrastructure here depends on any specific AI provider ...
A Significant and Fast-Moving Situation Happening Now ...
Anthropic has a $200 million contract with the Pentagon, and Claude is currently the only AI model available in the military's classified systems. The core dispute is that the Pentagon wants Anthropic to lift its restrictions so the military can use Claude for all lawful use, but Anthropic has two hard lines it won't cross: AI-controlled weapons that fire without human involvement, and mass domestic surveillance of American citizens ...
This escalated sharply this week. Defense Secretary Hegseth gave Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei a Friday deadline to comply or risk losing the contract, and threatened to invoke the Defense Production Act to compel Anthropic's cooperation, plus designate them a supply chain risk ... a penalty normally reserved for companies from adversarial nations ...
The backstory that made it personal: Claude was reportedly used in the US military operation in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of President Maduro, during which 83 people were killed. To Anthropic's credit, Amodei reiterated the company's red lines on autonomous weapons and mass surveillance, and Anthropic has reportedly no plans to budge. An Anthropic researcher also resigned over concerns about AI's role in these situations ...
Anthropic has been deeply embedded with the U.S. federal government ... partnering with Palantir for classified networks, offering Claude to all federal branches through GSA for $1, and publicly aligning with the administration on AI policy. Amodei personally attended an AI summit with Trump. So this isn't a company that was dragged into government work ... they pursued it aggressively ...
This entanglement is real, and wherever this lands ... whether Anthropic holds firm or eventually compromises ... it raises questions about what kind of company many of us are supporting with our subscription. That's a values decision. The work we do with Claude ... our website ... our creative practice ... none of it is partisan to this in any way ...
A Wall Street Journal profile portrayed Amodei as the face of the historically liberal wing of Silicon Valley ... He left OpenAI in 2020 over safety concerns ... and has publicly condemned the ICE violence in Minneapolis that killed two civilians ... calling out the horror we're seeing in Minnesota. He also reportedly called Trump a feudal warlord during the election. Trump's AI czar David Sacks has publicly attacked Anthropic as representing woke AI and the doomer industrial complex ...
Dario Amodei is also a pragmatist running a company headed toward an IPO ... He makes a point of publicly supporting Trump's AI Action Plan ... attended an AI summit with Trump in Pennsylvania ... and described having a good conversation about US leadership in AI ... Even when condemning ICE violence ... he tempered his criticism with praise for Trump ... a pattern the reporting specifically called out ... Anthropic pursued the $200 million Pentagon contract ... partnered with Palantir for classified work ... added a former Trump deputy chief of staff to its board ... and offered Claude to all federal agencies for $1 ...
So what you're looking at is someone who is personally liberal and draws genuine ethical lines ... no autonomous weapons ... no mass surveillance ... but who has also aggressively courted government and military business ... praised the administration when strategically useful ... and is navigating an IPO where those relationships matter enormously ...
Is Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei a MAGA supporter? The question is whether the ethical lines he draws are where we at Oyparaploo would draw them, and whether the compromises he has already made ... Palantir partnership ... classified military deployment ... a tool used in an operation where 83 people died ... sits right with our conscience?
That's the better question to ask?
Everything mentioned here came from ... Al Jazeera ... NPR ... Axios ... CNN ... NBC News ... CNBC ... and Anthropic's own blog post ... Claude is a product made by Anthropic ... so this information could also be to a certain extend biased and at the same time straight with us ...
Anthropic's statements on their blog shows how Amodei frames his relationship with the administration in his own words ... judge the tone for yourself ... we most certain will out of curiosity ...
A couple extra things to make note of ... The technical independence section we entered with is solid and factual ... Cloudflare ... Hugo ... static files ... portable documentation ... That's all verifiable and true ... The political situation part is accurate to what reporting says as of today ... but this is moving fast ... Hegseth's Friday deadline is Tomorrow ... Whatever happens ... whether Anthropic holds firm ... folds ... gets designated a supply chain risk ... or some compromise emerges ... could change this above stated information ... So we will also add this date ... February 26 ... 2026 ... That's our honest position since none of us have the full picture yet ...
Whatever happens tomorrow at least we have this small article ... and oyparaploo.com will keep presenting from Cloudflare regardless ...
