Chemicals drift where people sleep.
Where someone's grandmother opens her door
not knowing yet.
Before the sun: figures in frozen haze.
Some holding cameras. Some holding
what they can.
Breath visible.
Phones raised.
Not shields. Just phones.
Someone's shift.
Someone's orders.
The sound of a car door.
What happens before daylight,
in air that burns—
meant to disappear.
The small group refuses.
They stand where the disappearing happens.
The haze holds all of them.
Those recording. Those not.
For one moment the same air.
