the opening dropping the gaze-as-subject (cold-reader
stumble at the close) and the density of *higher source
chosen whisper*. Reach solved both with title and
compression — pulled the close-line forward as title (the
gaze-reference now lives at the top, opening earns the
close), and compressed higher source chosen whisper to
chosen whisper (two nouns instead of four).
New compound vocabulary and figures:
- Effective gaze — title carries it. Effective
doing both the gaze that has taken effect and
the gaze that does what it intends. Title-line
pulled from the body's close.
- Vintage tilt — vintage doing wine-and-aging work
that new alone couldn't, tilt doing physical-
orientation work that edge alone couldn't. The
familiar face arriving with both.
- "Did you sleep" — quoted phrase held at arm's
length per the practice voice convention. The
everyday question arriving with a different weight.
- Chosen whisper — the gaze-source compressed.

runs backward from how it appears.
