notes: Third piece of the LitUp-adjacent body of work. Completes a triptych with "A worded image of Our Senses" and "Fresh Off the Dry and Airy Ripple." Three movements presented as three paragraphs (the /// dividers from an earlier draft were removed; the three-ness is named internally by "Red Green Brown triptych closeness"). The title breaks open the Buddhist mantra "om mani padme hum" into "Om Pad Us Hum" — "padme" becomes "Pad Us," placing the speakers into the middle of the mantra where the lotus usually sits. "To the Next Thing" closes plainly, balancing the sacred opening with casual getting-on-with-it. Title went through three versions during drafting: "On To the Next Line" → "O'ohm On to the Next Moment" → "Om Pad Us Hum To the Next Thing." Second-movement internal reference updated to match the final title. Claims several potential umbrella terms for the form without settling on one: worded image, image sensation, low stress percussive, genuine o'instincts. Closes on "night boat read" as the image of the imagined reader.
